A breakup; a buzz cut; a bold new affinity for the tattoo parlor; and a daring career move. No, it's not the latest celebrity meltdown. But it is One Direction's Liam Payne forging a new direction for himself. He's going solo again—well, sort of. The recently single heartthrob may have become bolder and brasher since his split with girlfriend Danielle Peazer, but he isn't leaving Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson. However, he is stepping out from 1D by launching his own YouTube channel.
"Hi guys, so I do a lot of twitcams and stuff but I thought I would start a YouTube channel so you guys can see different things I get up to. Feel free to ask me if there is songs you want me to play or anything you guys want to see," Payne wrote on his new video page and then consequently shared a "coming soon" Twitter plug on Friday, Nov. 23, as Press Party confirms.
"I just want to do something extra for all you amazing fans to show you how greatful [sic] I am for all your hard work and all the amazing support you give me and the boys. Im going to try and post at least one random video every few week so watch out," he added.
At last check, the empty, video-less page already had more than 88,000 subscribers, so Payne is off to a good start. That number should skyrocket once he actually posts some content.
That said, if One Direction does eventually fall under the boy-band curse and follow the breakup trend of, say, NSync, the Backstreet Boys and 98 Degrees, then Liam Payne may have just carved himself out a backup plan—and the first step to becoming a solo artist.
