David Beckham: 'I'm picking up an American accent'
David Beckham: 'I'm picking up an American accent'
David Beckham has revealed that he has started to lose his British accent. The LA Galaxy footballer, who moved to Los Angeles with wife Victoria five years ago, said that he finds himself using American terminology all the time.Beckham told The Sun: "I catch myself calling my kids 'dude' every once in a while, so there are a few words creeping in. And using American words like elevator instead of lift."
He also revealed that sons Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz have become more expressive with their sense of fashion since living in the US, saying: "They're at the age when they want to wear their own things.
"You've got the oldest, Brooklyn, and he'll wear his soccer shirts and a T-shirt. Romeo is the fashion one, so he'll go in and pick up skinny jeans and a vintage T-shirt and a funny hat.
"Cruz loves Justin Bieber, so anything he's got Cruz wants, like the big high-tops with skinny jeans. They all have their own style."
Two years after relocating, the Beckhams reportedly started taking elocution lessons in a bid to boost their US career prospects. Around the same time, David admitted that the children were all developing "really American" accents.

Jonathan Ross tackles David Beckham before tearfully bowing out on last show
He'd been trying to get him on the show for nine years and judging by these pictures Jonathan Ross appears to be delighted at finally bagging David Beckham as a guest.
The football star ended up tussling with Ross and sitting on his lap as the controversial host filmed his last chat show for the BBC last night.
And the 49-year-old certainly made sure he went out with a bang too, ending his 13-year career with the BBC by trashing the set.
Fooling around: Jonathan Ross gets to grips with David Beckham during filming for the last episode of his chat show for the BBC last night
He signed off as insiders confirmed Graham Norton, who has been touted as the favourite to replace him, will be the new face of Friday nights come October.
Ross - whose £6million-a-year deal had been the subject of much criticism - took every opportunity to mention his new chat show with ITV during filming last night.
Graham Norton 'is BBC's new face of Fridays nights'
Graham Norton is to take over from Jonathan Ross to host BBC1's Friday night chat show, insiders say.
After months of speculation surrounding Ross's successor, a source revealed that Norton, who was the favourite to land the job, will take over the flagship show.
The news about Norton, 47, has a £4million, two-year deal with the corporation, comes the night after Ross recorded his last ever Friday night show for the BBC, which airs tomorrow night.
A source told The Sun: 'Yes, Graham will be the face of Friday nights from October. He's over the moon.
'The show won't be called Friday Night With, it will be very similar to the Graham Norton Show on Monday nights.
'But moving it to a plum spot on Fridays will see him pull in more A-list names.'
But while introducing Beckham, there was a hint of bitterness as he made a jibe about the type of presenter who might replace him.
He said: 'We've been trying to get him on for nine years - if he'd waited one more week it would have been Friday Night with Konnie Huq.'
In his interview, Beckham, 35, opened up, revealing he and wife Victoria are 'always trying' for more children, saying: 'If we’re lucky enough to have more, that will be amazing.’
The couple have three boys and the sportsman admitted he and Victoria are strict with them because that's how they were brought up.
Talking about their bedtimes, David revealed Cruz, five, goes at 7.15, Romeo, seven, at 7.45 and Brooklyn, 11, at 9pm.
He said he'd love them to go into football as a career, conceding he is dying to start playing again himself following his injury earlier this year which prevented him from playing in the World Cup.
‘I started running 10 days ago,' he said. 'It’s killing me, not playing football. I want to keep playing, I believe I’ve still got a lot to offer the country.’
Speaking about his wife, David revealed her number is saved in his phone as Posh and admitted she calls him Golden Balls.
He told Ross how he was proud of her new career as a fashion designer, saying: 'People don’t realise how hard she works... so focused... she’s getting the rewards and she deserves it.’
Finally got him: Ross appeared pleased to have finally landed Beckham as a guest, telling the audience he'd been trying to get him on the show for nine years
Hollywood star Mickey Rourke was another guest on the show, and gave Ross a pair of black leather designer shoes as a present.
The outspoken host put them on and started to strut across the stage before turning to the audience and saying: 'Oooh welcome to ITV.'
The U.S. actor star replied: 'Well, I hear you're going on a journey, so you'll need them.'
Emotional: Ross became emotional as he signed off but he still trashed the set of his show as he attempted to go out with a bang
It was following his interview with kung fu star Jackie Chan that Ross then stunned the audience by trashing the set.
Ross has been one of the biggest names at the BBC for the past decade, but also one of the most controversial.
His huge salary has made him a target for critics of the corporation's wage structure, and there were calls for his sacking after he and fellow Radio 2 host Russell Brand made a prank phone call to actor Andrew Sachs in 2008, which attracted 50,000 complaints.
Off he goes: The host leaves the BBC studios in London with wife Jane Goldman
Ross quit in January and this month signed a £1million deal to launch a new chat show with ITV next year after nine years of presenting Friday Night with Jonathan Ross with the BBC.
It was not until the end of the filming last night that he became emotional.
Wiping away a tear, he said: 'I really don't know what to say. Thanks to all the guests we've had on tonight, had over the last ten years - 96 per cent have been great!
'The press make me out to be arrogant but I feel very honoured and humbled and lucky for this experience.'
He was later seen leaving driving away from the BBC studios in London with wife Jane Goldman.
